Malay Wedding Dishes


     In a typical Malay wedding, there’ll be two separate receptions held; one will be at the groom’s house and the other one at the bride’s. No matter which side of reception  people choose to attend, the food will pretty much be similar,  if not the same, and the choices are plenty.


     The food usually will represents the Kampung-style cooking, and even until this day, Kampung-style food is the much-preferred cuisine at most Malay wedding, whatever the theme will be , most Malay wedding receptions offer a buffet-style (prepared beforehand by a caterer or cooked by the villagers) for the wedding feast, while some couple prefers the ala carte-style (this is usually done at a high-class wedding, especially the ones held at hotels). Among the must-have food at Malay wedding reception includes:

     Most Malay wedding receptions will serve at least three special or different variety of rice, and they are plain white rice, Nasi Briyani (Malay for rice with spices), and Nasi Minyak (Malay for scented rice). Nasi Minyak is traditionally served at Malay weddings, with the rice being cooked with spices, coconut milk, ginger, and butter.Usually , nasi putih and Nasi Minyak are the most preffered choices by all the weddings. Meanwhile, the Nasi Briyani has spices and saffron that makes the rice somewhat yellowish and rich in flavor.While for Nasi Briyani , this is the optional and special dishes and the price is quite higher than nasi putih and nasi 
Minyak







    Ayam Masak Merah is definitely a must-have food at any Malay wedding reception, and the best part is that it can be eaten with any type of rice and the taste will still be just as perfect and tasty.This meal is also one of the favourite choice by the guests and also the wedding couple in every wedding.The typical Malay dish where the chicken is cooked in a spicy red tomato sauce.Sometimes it taste either sweet or hot, depending on the person who cooked it and the quantity of the chili used. It’s also usually served with green peas and slices of 

onion.



    Acar is a must-have condiment to be served at Malay weddings, and it’s a pickled vegetables cooked for quite a while. Acar normally tastes tangy and is really rich in vinegar. It’s a nice substitute dish for those who are vegetarian.
